- Rice washing
First, you need to wash 1 cup of white rice.
White rice will turn the water milky. Wash rice until water will be clear.
- Start cooking rice
For 1 cup of rice, you need 1 3/4 cup water and 1 teaspoon salt.
Bring the water to the boil. When it has boiled add the salt. Put in the rice and stir with a wooden spoon once. Don’t stir again as this can make the rice sticky.
- Simmer and steam rice
Turn the heat down to a low setting, cover the pan and simmer for 18 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and steam the rice in the pan for 5 minutes.
Just before you serve the rice take a fork and fluff it up.
