Japanese Hamburger Steak is quite commonly found in Japan. It’s commonly called “Hambaagaa” or “Hambagu”. These hamburger steaks are found at many fast-food chains and quick meal restaurants.
Hamburger steak is made with either ground beef or pork. Also, there are many recipes out there that use Red-Wine Jus but I decided to cook with a less thick sauce as I am serving mine with rice. So in this simple quick home cook recipe. I am using Shimeji mushrooms to infuse the sauce with mushroom flavors.
In a bowl, combine the ground pork with patty mixture well until sticky.
Shape the pork mixture into ball shape then pound it on a flat surface to form a patty.
Heat up oil in a non-stick pan. When hot, place the pork patty into the pan and fry them both sides till browned.
Add the sauce ingredients into the non-stick pan and let it boil. Next, add the shimeji mushrooms and the white parts of the spring onions into the pan. Turn down the heat and cover with a lid. Let it simmer for 5 minutes before thickening the sauce with starch water.
Serve Japanese Hamburger Steak into a plate and garnish with the green parts of the spring onion and dash of pepper.
